Celebrating Halloween a week early, Del Ray went all out to display their spirit of the season. Mount Vernon Avenue was closed down so the hundreds of participants could show off their creativity in costume.

The highlight for us canine enthusiasts started at 2:00 pm, the parade of dogs and their humans was kicked off by Santa and his dog-deer. Who knew a Chinese crested mix and a Great Dane along with 6 other canine breeds would one day pull Santa’s sleigh?

Next in line was everything from Batdog to dog-chicks hatching out of an egg. It was incredible.  The intense planning, the competetion, and the awards made this day a day to remember.

Hello…..are all dogs in Alexandria born in September.  I just did my final count on custom made doggie birthday cakes.  We made over 25 cakes in September.  That is an all time record for Barkley Squares custom cakes.  Now this doesn’t account for all the goodie bags made or the special birthday bones we made.

So for all the dogs that sent your humans to Barkley Square to purchase your custom birthday cakes…Bow Wow

Barkley has been hosting the Yappy hour every Thursday from 6-9 pm.  We have seen so many dogs bringing in their humans to take advantage of the quality wines served by Planet Wine and the scrumptious treats provided free from Barkley Square.

Last count Yappy Hour is averaging about 30 dogs and 20 humans.  The equation is really great.

What I like best about the way our Yappy/Happy hour is working out is that the mix of people is awesome.  It is family oriented, yet singles are showing up with their dogs in hope of meeting folks that share their love of the dog.
