King Street Cats will be at Barkley Square every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month until the fall with adorable cats looking for homes. Last week three kittens, Tilly, Fettucine and Tortellini, were all adopted!!!! There are plenty of more kittens looking for homes. Please stop by Barkley Square, 2006 Mt. Vernon Ave in Alexandria,  in between 1pm and 4pm and take a look at the cuties available for adoption.

Wow! We found another fantastic way to help homeless animals!!!

There’s no whining (or barking, or meowing) with this wine!  Enjoy a wine tasting and help raise funds for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA). The AWLA is the featured charity for April at the Prince Michel Tasting Room, 1309 King St., in Old Town Alexandria. For each $5 flight of wine, Prince Michel will donate $1 to help the League care for homeless animals.

Hours for the wine tastings at Prince Michel are 12-6 p.m. Sun. through Wed. and 12-8 p.m. Thurs. through Sat for the rest of April. For more details, call the shelter at (703) 838-4774, ext. 245, or Prince Michel at (571) 970-6903.

To further promote our Humane Education program, the Washington Humane Society is teaming up with Athletes For Animals. The program works with pet-loving professional athletes to raise money and awareness for animal welfare charities that teach children to be kind, compassionate and respectful of animals.

Local star athletes, including Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins, Shaone Morrisonn of the Washington Capitals, and Clyde Simms of DC United, will be visiting DC area schools, with their dogs and our Humane Educators, to speak to students about the importance of treating animals with respect and kindness.

How it works:

Pet lovers visit www.athletesforanimals.com to enter a FREE DRAWING for autographed items donated by professional athletes. For each FREE entry, the program sponsors donate $1 to the Washington Humane Society.

Athletes For Animals is working in conjunction with the Washington Humane Society’s Players Give Paws program. Players Give Paws is WHS’ athlete ambassador program where local professional athletes promote the adoption of shelter animals, spay/neuter, and the humane treatment of animals.
